Polo Park honoured with 2009 BOMA Manitoba Earth Award

The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Manitoba celebrated building management excellence at an awards luncheon in Winnipeg. Once again, Cadillac Fairview proved to be an industry leader in the execution of sustainable business practices.

Polo Park was awarded the prestigious BOMA Manitoba 2009 Earth Award in the shopping centre category, having obtained the highest assessment scores in achieving its BOMA BESt certification. "We believe it is important to promote environmental leadership in our industry, and we are proud to recognize the accomplishments of our members," said BOMA Manitoba President, Glenn Cayer. "The team at Cadillac Fairview has demonstrated outstanding commitment to environmental best practices, and are a deserving recipient of this 2009 Earth Award."

In October 2008, Polo Park became the first shopping centre in Manitoba to achieve BOMA BESt accreditation after having demonstrated strong results in the areas of: energy and water management; emissions and effluents, waste reduction; indoor environment; and environmental management systems. “Polo Park has been focused on sustainable operations for many years now,” says Deborah Green, General Manager of Polo Park. “Having our team's efforts validated through our BOMA BESt certification last fall was extremely rewarding. We are very pleased to be recognized with this award."
By November, all of Cadillac Fairview's 51 major shopping centres and office properties across Canada had successfully achieved BOMA BESt accreditation. This achievement at Polo Park is the result of a collaborative team effort and a byproduct of the company's proprietary GREEN AT WORKTM strategy.

GREEN AT WORKTM is national in scope; implemented at all properties and sets operational benchmarks to reduce energy consumption and waste, improve environmental protection, encourage sustainable procurement and ongoing communication with key stakeholders.
